A WhatsApp link is a web address that starts a chat with a number without the person saving it as a contact. It can carry a pre-filled message: the text appears typed in the chat box and the person only has to tap send. It's the "Message us" button on your Instagram bio, your Google Business Profile or your website.
WhatsApp calls this click to chat and uses the short domain wa.me. This tool builds the link in the right format for your country, ready to copy, and can turn it into a QR code.
How a wa.me link is built
The official format is https://wa.me/ followed by the number in international format: country
code and number, with no plus sign, spaces, dashes or leading zero. A message goes after ?text=, encoded so
spaces and accents work in any browser.
| Country | What you type | The link |
|---|---|---|
| United States | (201) 555-0123 | https://wa.me/12015550123 |
| Brazil | (11) 91234-5678 | https://wa.me/5511912345678 |
| Mexico | 55 1234 5678 | https://wa.me/525512345678 |
| Spain | 612 34 56 78 | https://wa.me/34612345678 |
With a message, the US link looks like this: https://wa.me/12015550123?text=Hi%2C%20I%27d%20like%20to%20place%20an%20order.
The tool does the encoding for you.
Where to use your WhatsApp link
- Instagram and TikTok bio, as your main link or in your link page.
- Google Business Profile, in the website or messaging field.
- Your website, on the contact button.
- Email signatures and invoices, so customers reach you where you answer fastest.
- Ads and posts, with a different message per campaign so you know which one worked.
- Print: for counters and flyers, use the WhatsApp QR code generator.
Pre-filled messages that work
- "Hi, I'd like to place an order" for your main button.
- "Hi, can you send me your catalog with prices?" for product posts.
- "Hi, I saw your October promo" for campaigns, so you know where each chat came from.
- "Hi, I'd like to book an appointment" for services and clinics.
Common mistakes that break the link
- Missing country code.
wa.me/2015550123won't open your chat; it needs the 1 in front. - A leading 0 or local prefix. Drop it in international format.
- Spaces or symbols in the number. The link accepts digits only.
- The number doesn't have WhatsApp. The chat opens with an error message.
When the chats start piling up
A good link brings more conversations. If answering them becomes the bottleneck, Zavora's WhatsApp AI agent replies 24/7, takes the order and sends it to your dashboard. See pricing.
